Discover Café Intermezzo - Avalon

Walking into Café Intermezzo - Avalon feels like stepping into a European café that just happens to sit in the middle of Alpharetta’s liveliest shopping district. Located at 100 Avalon Blvd, Alpharetta, GA 30009, United States, this spot has become a go-to for locals who want a relaxed meal, a solid espresso, or a late-night dessert without feeling rushed. I’ve stopped in here after shopping, before movies, and even on slow weekday afternoons, and the experience manages to feel consistent every time.

The menu is where this place really shows range. One visit I went classic with a chicken pesto panini and cappuccino, another time I leaned into comfort with pasta and tiramisu. What stands out is how approachable everything feels; nothing is overly complicated, yet the flavors are balanced and intentional. A server once explained how their desserts are delivered fresh daily, which lines up with what you taste. The cheesecake has that dense, creamy texture you expect from a bakery-quality slice, not something pulled from a freezer. According to data from the National Coffee Association, over 60% of Americans drink coffee daily, and places like this succeed because they treat coffee as part of the meal rather than an afterthought.

From an experience standpoint, Café Intermezzo works well for different kinds of diners. I’ve met friends here for long conversations without feeling pressured to leave, and I’ve also seen solo guests reading or working quietly. The seating layout supports both, with smaller tables along the edges and larger ones that encourage sharing plates. The staff tends to pace service based on cues, which is harder than it sounds. That kind of situational awareness is something hospitality experts like Danny Meyer often emphasize as a key driver of repeat visits.

Reviews often mention consistency, and that matches my own experience. Whether it’s brunch or late evening, the food quality stays steady. Their breakfast items, especially omelets and pastries, follow a straightforward preparation process that keeps things reliable. Eggs are cooked to order, espresso drinks are pulled fresh, and plates arrive hot. The kitchen doesn’t try to reinvent classics, which is probably why regulars keep coming back. A study published by Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration found that perceived consistency strongly influences restaurant trust, and this place seems to understand that well.

Another thing worth noting is how the location shapes the vibe. Avalon attracts a mix of shoppers, professionals, and families, so Café Intermezzo ends up being a natural meeting point. I’ve overheard business discussions next to birthday celebrations, and somehow it works without feeling chaotic. The ambient noise stays at a comfortable level, which matters more than people realize when choosing where to eat.

There are a few limitations worth mentioning honestly. During peak weekend hours, wait times can stretch longer than expected, especially for outdoor seating. Parking in the area can also be tricky if there’s an event nearby. Still, those factors are more about the popularity of the location than the restaurant itself, and planning around them usually solves the issue.

Overall, Café Intermezzo blends café culture, full-service dining, and dessert-focused indulgence into one space that feels welcoming rather than forced. The balance between menu variety, service pacing, and atmosphere makes it easy to recommend, whether someone is reading reviews for a casual lunch spot or looking for a dependable place to unwind with coffee and cake after a long day.

  • Best coffee give it a try. After eating at Rumi’s at Avalon with my hubby we stopped by Cafe Intermezzo . I had the Cafe Italiano and my husband had the cafe latte we had it with just froth no extra whip cream or flavored syrups. It was the best coffee ever I felt like we were in Italy at a cafe sipping our bougie coffee . Give it a try because it was such a genuine great experience with coffee and the vibe there

  • We were in town for a wedding and we wish we would have found this place on day 1 of our trip. Hands down best eggs Benedict I've ever had. Our waitress was amazing (wish I would have remembered her name)! The other people in our group had the crepes and French toast and said they were really good! 100/10 recommend!

  • Trey is the best bartender. He makes the best drinks. I had a cosmopolitan (light pink). A espresso martini (he makes them creamy!), my husband had an old fashioned, and then I asked Trey “make me whatever drink you want.” He made me the Roasado del sol…. It is delicious! The cheesecake was also great as is the food and atmosphere… but the highlight was Trey with the superb drinks. Chef kiss!

  • They have a hot chocolate section on the menu! I chose the Mexican hot chocolate. Tiny little chocolate morsels await you at the bottom of the cup, slightly melted. There seems to be little bits of gritty vanilla or sugar crystals throughout the drink. It was delightful. A hot chocolate will cost around $9. The atmosphere feels like 1950’s Europe. A mix of Italian, German, French style. Dimly lit. Lots of two-person tables created an intimate setting. 6 bar stools. They don’t take reservations. Free parking in the lots behind the Main Street. We sat at the bar for our hot chocolate. The bar tender was great. He checked up on us just the right amount and threw in a few jokes that just made for an even more enjoyable evening.

  • Café Intermezzo is one of those rare places that instantly transports you—feels like stepping into a cozy café somewhere in Europe. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and inviting, with beautiful furnishings and attention to detail in every corner. We had the open-faced croissant with eggs, bacon, and crispy potatoes—absolutely delicious and perfectly portioned. The French toast was a sweet highlight—fluffy, rich, and beautifully presented. For drinks, we enjoyed two excellent lattes and a traditional Turkish coffee (as seen in our video)—bold, flavorful, and served with style. Service was surprisingly fast, especially considering how detailed and carefully everything is prepared. Whether you’re stopping in for brunch, dessert, or just a coffee break, this spot is a must-visit when you’re at Avalon in Alpharetta.

  • Café Intermezzo – Avalon instantly transports you to an Italian café with its cozy, old-world charm and rich atmosphere. We ordered a caramel cappuccino, white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, and a mixed berry crêpe with Schlag—and every bite and sip was incredible. The cappuccino was bold and smooth with just the right touch of caramel. The cheesecake? Silky, sweet perfection. And that crêpe—fresh berries, soft pastry, and real whipped cream. Perfect for date night or catching up with family and friends—this spot is a must-visit! For more reviews, follow us on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok @gbdiningdykes

  • We absolutely love this place! Adorable seating area especially outside, you can watch the hustle and bustle of Avalon shoppers. The breakfast croissant with eggs was so delicious and cappuccino and chocolate raspberry cake was delicious! Our server was very pleasant and a bit flirtation when he caught on that all the girls were swooning over him we were celebrating my daughter’s 16th birthday. Thank you so much for your lovely service!
